Day 247

I am grateful for George Washington.

He set the bar for the integrity, honor, and respect due the office of the President of the United States of America. His life, conduct, and faith in God are shining standards that define what we as Americans want to stand for. I have always admired him for that.

A story is told of the general as he was about to cross a river on horseback. A poor man went up to him and asked if he could ride across with him. The general agreed. On the other side, a soldier asked the man why, of all people, he would ask General George Washington for a ride. The man answered, "He had a 'yes' face." A great general with an approachable countenance. Ya gotta love it.

Most people don't know this, but factoring in what the dollar stood for then and now, he remains the richest president we have ever had. And on another note, he didn't have wooden teeth. He lost all but one of his teeth by age 57, and his first set of dentures were made of hippopotamus tusks and gold. He would have been 280 years old last February if we lived that long. A little useless trivia for ya.

Thank You, Lord, for this wise, brave, intelligent, and humble man.
