This is a man who has lived a simple, straight-forward philosophy of life: "I just want to lobby for God." He has counseled every president since Eisenhower, some more than others. His message and intention has no other motive than to present Jesus Christ, whether in word or in deed. His life is marked by integrity, consistency, humility, and humor.
One of my favorite quotes of his is, "We are the Bibles the world is reading; we are the creeds the world is needing; we are the sermons the world is heeding." What a difference it would make if everyone who claims to follow Christ lived this to heart.
Thank You, Lord, for the life and legacy of this truly great man.
